Around The Rec is BACK!

What is Around the Rec?

Around the Rec is a challenge that encourages you to explore different Rec Well spaces, try new activities, and rack up points along the way. Running now through Active Badger Day on March 5, getting started is easy: register for the challenge, complete activities (Flexes), and collect at least three points to earn an exclusive, limited-edition, ultimate swag Rec Well crewneck.

How Do I Earn Flexes?

Various activities qualify for Flexes, and all of them can be completed more than once for more points. As if it couldn’t get easier, we are keeping track of your Flexes. So, all you have to do is show up and tap into your flex potential. Here are some possible Flexes to complete:

  • Access the Nick and/or Bakke five times
  • Climb at Mt. Mendota one time
  • Follow us on Instagram
  • Attend a Wolf Teaching Kitchen open house
  • Attend a Wellbeing workshop*
  • Play open rec tennis at Nielsen one time
  • Attend a NTS Student Night*
  • Attend Late Night Aqua Zumba
  • Be active on a Sports Club roster*
  • Attend one group fitness class
  • Skate during open rec one time

*Flexes marked with an asterisk are only available to UW-Madison students.

“Flexmaxxing”

Flexmaxxing isn’t just a mindset; it’s a lifestyle. It’s about getting the absolute most out of every beautiful moment you spend at Rec Well. Whether you’re stacking Flexes from sunrise to sunset or locking in for one power-packed session, flexmaxxing is the art of doing the most. Here are some possible scenarios that pack as many Flexes in one day:

  • Start your day by swiping into the Nick in your favorite workout fit that the barista who made your iced vanilla latte (in a sealed, spill-proof container) already complimented. Plus, your latte fire.
  • Take Mat Pilates with Elizabeth on Wednesday at 8:15am, of course. No modifications needed during the workout – you might break a sweat, but you never break your focus on the Flex.
  • You spend the whole day on a generational productive lock-in session, getting work and assignments done left and right. You are a flexmaxxing, academic machine.
  • After a delicious dinner, you come back to your favorite Rec Well facility and compete in an intramural volleyball game with all of your flexmaxxing friends. Not only do you win the game, but you’ve completed two of three Flexes, and are already on track for a third.

Group fitness and intramurals not your vibe? Don’t worry, we have a whole other facility to earn Flexes in. Here is another idea of what a flexmaxxing day can look like at the Bakke:

  • Swipe into Bakke, remembering to grab another pair of shoes to work out in. Wouldn’t want you working out in dirty street shoes on the expensive, brand-new equipment. Negative aura.
  • Go to the third floor and hit the best back & bi session you’ve ever completed. You go to failure on every rep. Everyone can see the difference in muscle mass already.
  • When Mt. Mendota calls your name, you answer. You practice your rock climbing abilities. Even the staff looks at you in awe.
  • You’re hungry now. No problem, you were dedicated to flexmaxxing and already signed up for a cooking class right in the Wolf Teaching Kitchen. You are a strategy beast.

Feeling up for it? Make sure to register and get started! Happy flexmaxxing, Active Badgers!
