General Locker Policies
- All lockers are the exclusive property of Recreation & Wellbeing; we reserve the right to open lockers for any emergency, safety, or maintenance purpose
- Violation of UW-Madison and/or Rec Well policies may lead to termination of locker privileges without a refund
- Valid membership is required for day use and rental lockers
- We are not responsible for lost or stolen items
We invite all members to use the locker room and restroom that is most comfortable and appropriate for them. We will not assume an individual’s gender identity and will not tolerate acts of harassment or discrimination against anyone on the basis of gender identity. Such instances will be immediately addressed by our staff. A full list of single-stall, gender inclusive restrooms can be found here.
Day Use Lockers
- Lockers marked “Day Use Only” may be used by members during open hours and can be locked with a personal lock or a rental lock ($1) from the Member Services desk at the Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center, Nicholas Recreation Center, and Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
- Guests using the facility may bring a personal lock and use the Day Use Lockers during open hours on the day of their visit
- Locks left on after the facility closes will be removed and the contents of the locker will be disposed of if not claimed within 7 days; items can be claimed at the facility in which the locker was used and a $15 locker cleanout fee will be charged to retrieve locker contents
Rental Lockers
- Personal belongings left in an expired locker will be removed and the contents of the locker will be disposed of if not claimed within 7 days. Items can be claimed at the facility in which the locker was used. A $15 locker cleanout fee will be charged to retrieve locker contents. A $20 locker cleanout fee will be charged to retrieve locker contents from Ice Rink lockers at the Sub-Zero Ice Center.
- Lockers are non-transferable and sharing is prohibited. For security purposes, forgotten combinations will only be issued to the person who is renting the locker.
- Lockers can be renewed up to 30 days prior to current locker expiration date.
TOWEL SERVICE
Towel service is available for students and all members. At the Nicholas Recreation Center and Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center, you have the option to sign up for recurring towel service. All facilities, including Nielsen Tennis Stadium, offer a daily towel rental ($1).

Towel Service Policies
- Available at the Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center, Nicholas Recreation Center, and Nielsen Tennis Stadium
- Service includes up to 2 towels at a time
- Towels must be checked back in at the desk with your Wiscard or Rec Well ID Card
- Towels can be checked out, used, and turned in at the Bakke, Nick, and Nielsen tennis Stadium
- Lost or damaged towels will result in a replacement fee
- Policies for daily towel rentals are the same as equipment checkout policies (see below)

Equipment Checkout Policies
- You must present a University of Wisconsin-Madison and/or Recreation & Wellbeing identification card to check out equipment.
- Equipment must be returned the same day it is checked out and should be returned 10 minutes before closing.
- You are responsible for the replacement fee due to loss or theft if a piece of rental equipment is left unattended or unsecured.
- If equipment is returned damaged beyond normal wear and tear, you will owe an equipment replacement fee.
- After 3 business days, you will be assessed an equipment replacement fee for late equipment. The equipment replacement fee varies based on equipment type.
- Unpaid equipment replacement fees after 7 calendar days will result in a suspension from Rec Well facilities, programs, and services. Unpaid equipment replacement fees after 14 calendar days will result in a hold on your student account.
