Our vision is to build a movement of healthy habits. One of the ways we do that is through peer education. During these free workshops, our Peer Wellness Educators will share information, resources, and strategies for you to improve your wellbeing.

Wellbeing Study Cafe

Drop into the Rec Well wellbeing study space as your schedule allows to enjoy snacks and a buffet of quiet activities such as coloring, bracelet making, board games, and puzzles. Ten-minute guided mindfulness and stretching sessions will be offered at 6, 7, and 8pm.

Wellbeing and Waffles

This drop-in event highlights the many dimensions of wellbeing, offering a “buffet” of wellbeing services including meditation, free five-minute chair massages, wellness coaching, and a waffle bar. Students who participate in multiple activities can be entered to win a massage or a cooking class (one winner of each).

Grounding in the Garden Yoga

In this slow-flow and low-impact yoga class, we will move through a variety of poses and use our breath to guide some of our movements. Additionally, we will use mindfulness, affirmation, and meditation techniques throughout class to create body awareness and develop a sense of grounding. Please bring your own yoga mat.

Invest in Your Growth: Goal Setting & Planting

Free plants! Create wellbeing vision, set goals, and decorate a pot.

Running the Distance: From 5K to Half-Marathon and Beyond

This presentation will guide you from training for a 5k to a half-marathon and beyond. We’ll cover goal setting and mental preparation, essential training strategies, injury prevention and management for distance running for beginners and accomplished runners. Presenters were be Dr. Chad Wagner, a primary care sports medicine physician at UHS and Erin Clark, a certified athletic trainer with Rec Well. Access the slides shared at the presentation here.

Introduction to Wellness Coaching

Explore our free wellness coaching program centered around the seven aspects of wellbeing. Participants will complete a personal wellbeing assessment, create their wellbeing vision, and write personal goals in a collaborative, supportive environment.

Body Mapping with Dr. Kate Phelps

Please join Dr. Kate Phelps of the UW-Madison Gender and Women’s Studies department and the 4W Initiative for an evening of body mapping! An arts-based therapy, body mapping explores elements of embodiment through a “mapping” process which integrates art, journaling, reflection, and more. Come learn how body mapping can render visible joy, growth, curiosity, and all other forms of emotion and experience that manifest within the body.

A REMinder on the Importance of Sleep

Presented in partnership with University Health Services
As we all know, sleep is essential to physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Are you implementing and practicing good sleep habits? Do you need direction on where to start in your sleep journey? In this workshop, we’ll introduce you to sleep tips and techniques and REMind you of all the benefits that a good night’s sleep has to offer.

De-Stress & Reset

Learn about types of stress, how stress affects your brain and body, and what happens when you don’t deal with stress. We will try out a variety of stress management techniques throughout the workshop and explore strategies that work best for you.

Fall Garden Meditation

Enjoy the fall colors and join us for a free meditation session in Allen Centennial Garden. Breathe in the crisp fall air and find a moment of calm through a seated, guided meditation with our instructor Scott Anderson. No experience or equipment necessary.

Healthy Relationships with Sex Out Loud

Sex Out Loud will lead this workshop that explores personal identity and personal boundaries, different types of relationships, communication tips, and dating and domestic violence. Participants can pick up safer sex supplies and Rec Well swag.

How to Be an Active Badger

Being an Active Badger is more than being physically active. This workshop will provide you with ways to get involved in the UW-Madison community while also taking care of your physical and mental health. Join us and the Office of Inclusion Education to discuss how to connect with other Badgers, access resources related to allyship and activism, and talk about strategies to protect others in your community during the pandemic.

How to Save for a Sunny Day

Do finances stress you out? Are your financial worries starting to affect other areas of your life? In this 45-minute workshop, our partners in the Office of Financial Aid will share money-saving tips to get you started on your financial wellbeing journey. Join us to learn more about saving, investing, and the connection between money and health.

Introduction to Intuitive Eating

Explore what it means to nourish your body intuitively, ways diet culture affects our relationship with food, and learn about the principles of intuitive eating through a jeopardy-style game.

Relax & Recharge

Work with Wheelhouse Studios and use art to help you de-stress. Participants will make their own mosaic picture frame or mirror!

Safer Sex with Sex Out Loud

Sex Out Loud will lead this workshop that discusses consent, proper usage of barrier methods, prevention and treatment of STIs, sexual assault on UW campus, and bystander prevention. Participants can pick up safer sex supplies and Rec Well swag.

Seasonal Eating for Sustenance

Chow down with us and the Dietetics Club and learn how eating seasonal foods can support your environment, bank account, and energy. Learn how to make overnight oats in a matter of minutes and walk away with breakfast for the next day and a mason jar to re-use for next time.

Self-Care Strategies to Build Resilience

Learning about the importance of resiliency and how to cultivate it in your own life. This 45-minute workshop introduces you to methods you can practice to build resiliency through mindfulness, gratitude, compassion, and self-check-ins. Finish the workshop by doing a gentle yoga flow with a gratitude meditation to leave you feeling refreshed as you head into finals.

Tips & Tricks for At-Home Cooking

Learn tips and tricks for how to successfully make nutritious meals at home including food prep skills, what to look for in the grocery store, and the best ingredients for making a nutritious meal.

ZZZs Get Degrees

Learn how sleep impacts personal wellbeing, how poor sleep hygiene is affecting your academic performance, and techniques to help shut your mind off.

Body Advocacy with Embark Lab

Join the Body Advocacy Movement (BAM) and Rec Well for a 2-session workshop on body acceptance to better yourself and others! Earn up to $75 by participating in the optional research study portion of BAM. This workshop is only open to current students.
