Membership Options

We offer various member options and benefits depending on your affiliation with the university. When the Nicholas Recreation Center opens in 2020, our Campus Affiliate, Alumni, and Household Adult members will have the ability to choose whether to include access to the Nick in your membership (All-Access) or not (Classic).

Campus Affiliates

ELIGIBILITY & RATES

UW-Madison faculty, staff, retirees and emeriti (see below), and UW Hospital employees are eligible to purchase the Campus Affiliate membership. Your direct affiliation with campus qualifies you for a discounted membership compared to that of non-affiliated members.

Please make sure to obtain your Wiscard at least one day prior to purchasing your membership or using our facilities.

EMERITUS AND RETIRED MEMBERS

UW-Madison retirees & emeritus faculty can continue and/or begin a Rec Well membership as a Campus Affiliate. In order to gain appropriate status for this membership, the following steps need to be taken:

  1. Contact your Human Resources department and have them send a request to RetiredID@ohr.wisc.edu to change your status to retired/emeritus.
  2. If you are continuing a Faculty/Staff Membership after retirement, please email us after Step #1 is complete so we can check your status & update your membership type accordingly.
  3. If you are not continuing a current membership, once your status is updated in our system as Emeritus/Retired eligibility, you will be eligible to purchase a Rec Well Membership. You can have us check your status by sending us an email.

UW-Madison Alumni

ELIGIBILITY & RATES

UW-Madison graduates with no other current affiliation to the university are eligible to purchase the Alumni membership with proof of graduation.

PURCHASING YOUR MEMBERSHIP

Proof of graduation can be provided using any of the following forms:

Bring a photo ID with birthdate and one of the above forms of proof to any University Recreation & Wellbeing Member Services office. If you still have a valid Wiscard, please bring it to reactivate upon purchasing your membership. If you do not have a Wiscard, a Rec Well ID card will be issued to you. Proof of graduation will only be required at initial membership purchase. Payment can be made with cash, check, or credit card.

Household Adults

ELIGIBILITY & RATES

Adults (18 years or older) living in the same household as a current Campus Affiliate, Alumni, or Student member are eligible to purchase the Household Adult membership (limit of one per sponsor). Please note that your sponsor must also be a paying Rec Well member or currently enrolled UW-Madison student throughout the entire duration of your membership. Any Household Adult member sponsored by a UW-Madison student must be living in the same residence as the student sponsor during the academic term (i.e. a student who lives in an apartment, but goes home to their parents’ during academic breaks cannot sponsor a parent).

PURCHASING YOUR MEMBERSHIP

Upon initial purchase, your sponsor must be present to register you under their account. You will be required to demonstrate proof that you share a residence with your sponsor. Proof of residence can be provided using any of the following forms:

  • Driver’s license for both individuals with same address
  • Joint mortgage, lease, or title with both individuals’ names and same address
  • Utilities or other bill with both individuals’ names and same address

NIELSEN TENNIS STADIuM-ONLY memberships

Household Adult memberships are available for Nielsen Tennis Stadium and can be sponsored by an eligible UW-Madison affiliate (not required to have Rec Well membership).

Dependents

ELIGIBILITY & RATES

The Dependent membership is available for dependents (younger than 18 years old) of Rec Well members or current UW students. Dependent memberships are currently only offered at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

  • Dependent Memberships need to be purchased and renewed in-person at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Parent/guardian (who is a Rec Well Affiliate Member or UW Student) must be present for purchase and renewal of Affiliate Dependent Membership.
  • Proof of guardianship or residency must be provided at time of purchase and renewal of membership. This can include birth certificate or proof that child still resides with the parent/guardian.
  • The Dependent’s parent/guardian must have a current Rec Well membership or current UW Student status.

Community

ELIGIBILITY & RATES

Members of the greater Madison community with no affiliation to campus are eligible to purchase the Community membership. This membership includes access to all services and amenities at the Shell (Camp Randall Sports Center). Please purchase your membership at the Shell Member Services Office.

If you would like to request a refund for an online purchase, please follow the link below. If you have a refund request for a purchase made in-person at one of our facilities, please return to that facility to discuss options with our staff or email hello@recwell.wisc.edu.

Refund Policies

Refund policies differ depending on type of purchase. Please review the information below and email us at hello@recwell.wisc.edu if you have any questions.

Membership, Service, Pass, & Program Purchases

Refund requests will be accepted up to 30 days from the original date of purchase to cancel or alter your University Recreation & Wellbeing membership, service, pass, and program purchase. Refunds and/or cancellations are not guaranteed. Guest Pass purchases are nonrefundable. Refund requests must be approved by our professional staff to be processed. Membership, service, pass, and program refunds will only include time from date of request forward; any lapsed time of membership or utilized services will not be refunded. Please click on the Program Purchases tab below for specific policies on program refunds.

No refunds will be given for membership, pass, or program suspensions due to Rec Well policy violations.

A cancellation processing fee of 10% of the refund amount or $10 minimum (should refund amount be less than $10), will be applied for all approved refunds, with the following exceptions:

  • Any circumstance that occurs due to unplanned facility closures or limited space for programs will not be charged a processing fee and will be refunded any unused portion of the membership or service; this does not include facility closures for holidays or other predetermined & posted facility hour changes
  • Faculty/staff who leave the university during the duration of their membership will lose their eligibility and therefore, their Campus Affiliate Membership; in this case, he/she can submit a refund request and will be refunded the remaining amount of their membership fees (from the end date of their eligible Faculty/Staff appointment) without a cancellation processing fee applied
  • Approved locker refunds will incur a $15 cancellation fee for processing locker clean out and lock changes

Program Purchases

All refund information in membership, service, and program purchases section applies. No refunds will be given as of 3 days prior to program offering start date.

Merchandise Purchases

Merchandise purchases are nonrefundable. If merchandise is defective upon opening, this must be reported to the main office staff within the duration of your visit when merchandise was purchased. A replacement item will be given with no additional cost. Defective merchandise must be returned at that time.

Refund Processing

All approved refunds will be returned in the following methods: payments made by credit card will be refunded to the original card used at the time of payment; credit card is required at time of refund transaction. Cash and check payments will be refunded via campus issued check and may take up to 30 days to process.

Once offered a refund, member or participant has 30 days to collect refund or fill out refund information.

Unless otherwise specified above, any amounts paid to University Recreation & Wellbeing after 30 days are nonrefundable.
