Challenge Course

The ropes course is home to the Adventure Learning Programs (ALPs). This space features a high and low ropes course and is located in Stoughton (about 25 minutes from campus).

Yes. A fee is charged for all non-student or non-UW-Madison affiliated groups. Email the ALPs Student Directors at alps@studentaffairs.wisc.edu  for more information and to receive a quote.

  • Close toed shoes are required. Comfortable and sturdy shoes work well, for example, tennis shoes. Sandals, flip flops, Crocs, Chacos, Tevas, and Five Finger shoes are not permitted.
  • Comfortable and easy to move in clothing. Anything that will make you feel comfortable being outside all day and moving around.
  • Sunscreen is recommended. We will also provide sunscreen.
  • Bring layers of clothing.
  • In colder weather, it is colder at the course than in Madison. Bring warmer clothes than you might normally need. Warm coat, hat, and gloves or mittens are recommended.
  • In warmer weather, it is often hotter at the ropes course than in Madison and there is little shade, so bring clothing that will keep you cooler.
  • It is often windy at the course, so plan accordingly—a light jacket, etc.

Yes. A clean and accessible portable toilet is available.

Yes. Any group that consists of 75 percent or more current UW-Madison students qualifies for free programming.

Complete the  ALPs Workshop Request Form to request a workshop and reserve the challenge course. The ALPs Student Directors will process your request upon receipt and will work with you to schedule a challenge course workshop. Please submit your request no later than three weeks prior to your chosen workshop date.

Yes, just bring a water bottle with you.

Yes. The minimum age for participation is 11 years old.

Yes. The maximum weight limit for the course is 275 lbs.
