Work-study is available for each position listed.
Application process: The application process varies by job type. For example, our group fitness instructors have a three-step hiring process and our creative positions in marketing and communications require a portfolio of previous work to be submitted with your application.
Certifications: For positions that require CPR/AED/First Aid and other safety certifications, please note that we offer classes on campus to help you fulfill these requirements. In most cases, students receive a discount when registering.

Accounting
Accounting Assistant
Get the behind-the-scenes look at the business side of our operations. Work with our finance team to manage expense tracking, revenue coordination, cash handling, program evaluation, and other special projects for the division. You’ll support our programs and learn the daily business functions that make them run. Students with academic experience and career interests related to finance and accounting are preferred.
Pay rate starts at $15.00/hour.
Aquatics
Lifeguard
Ensure the safety of all participants in the pool area. Enforcing preventative measures, promoting consistency, and remaining alert are the most important aspects of this position. It is the responsibility of the lifeguard to guide participants to safe behavior, to intervene when necessary to maintain safety, and to perform any required rescues. Current CPR/AED, First Aid, and Lifeguard certifications are required.
Advancement opportunities include Aquatic Supervisor and Aquatic Lead positions.

Events
Event Staff
Event staff are responsible for the many different logistics involving special events and facility reservations. Set up events and tear them down, transport equipment, and control access of facilities when necessary. Event staff must have excellent communication and customer service skills, and be able to work quickly and efficiently. This position has several physical demands such as pushing, pulling, and carrying equipment.
Pay rate starts at $16.00/hour.
Experiential Education
ALPs Facilitator
Help others develop skills such as leadership, appreciation of others, communication, trust, and community as a Facilitator with Adventure Learning Programs (ALPs). In this position, you’ll plan and facilitate educational workshops and post-workshop reflective group discussions. ALPs is a student organization on campus that facilitates team-building as well as high and low rope course workshops through experiential learning.

Facility Services
Student Maintenance Worker
Join the team responsible for the maintenance and repair for all of our facilities, including more than 60 acres of outdoor space. You’ll work with our Buildings & Grounds Superintendent to make sure our outdoor locations look great and are ready for play from April through September. If you enjoy the outdoors and physical labor, this could be the job for you!
Pay rate starts at $16.00/hour.
Student Custodian
Help keep our facilities clean and ready for action while also providing customer service. Work with our full-time facility services crew to ensure a great experience for all of our members. A normal shift involves sweeping, disinfecting, and restocking supplies throughout the building.

Fitness
Group Fitness Instructor
Inspire, energize, and motivate your fellow Badgers as a member of our group fitness team. We follow a “try, train, teach” model when hiring so you’ll first try leading a mini-workout (don’t worry, we’ll tell you exactly what to do!), train with our veteran team members in our mentoring program, and then teach your very own class when you’re ready. Personal Trainer
Work directly with clients to help them achieve their fitness goals. Rec Well personal trainers have passed a certification exam and completed our mentorship program prior to starting with clients. If you are interested in becoming a personal trainer but aren’t certified yet, consider signing up for our ACE® Personal Trainer Exam Prep Course.

Human Resources
Human Resources Lead
Work alongside our Human Resources team to create and maintain personnel records, answer both professional and student staff with HR related questions, and assist with special divisional projects. Leads in this position will get experience with all functions of HR including talent acquisition, onboarding, benefits, payroll, strategy, and much more! Students with academic experience or career interests related to human resources are preferred.
Pay rate starts at $17.50/hour.
Instructional Programs
American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor or Lifeguard Training Instructor
Applicants do not need to be currently certified but should be willing to obtain the necessary certification to instruct classes. Certification classes are offered throughout the year and at different days and times during the week.
Pay rate starts at $20.00/hr.
Swim Instructor
Teach swim lessons and aquatic safety to both youth and adult participants who represent a wide range of experience and confidence in the water. The American Red Cross® Water Safety Instructor certification and previous experience teaching swim lessons are strongly preferred.
Pay rate starts at $17.00/hr, and at $20.00/hour if American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certified.
Skate Instructors
Teach ice skating lessons to both youth and adult participants. Instructors will teach both private and group ice skating lessons. Previous experience teaching and skating is strongly preferred.
Pay rate ranges from $17.00 – $20.00/hour depending on previous experience.
Intramural Sports
Sport Programs Supervisor
Oversee our intramural sports and sport clubs in a leadership role. We offer flexible hours and competitive pay with opportunities for further advancement in the program all while getting more involved with the sports you love. No previous playing or officiating experience is necessary.
Pay rate starts at $17.00/hour.
Official & Scorekeeper
Join a team of more than 100 officials and scorekeepers (basketball only) on the field, court, or ice. We need officials for basketball, broomball, flag football, floor hockey, futsal, ice hockey, soccer, softball, and volleyball. No previous playing or officiating experience necessary. We provide full training and mentoring for new officials.

Marketing & Communications
Graphic Designer
Develop creative materials to increase brand recognition and exposure for a large and diverse audience, including current and prospective students, faculty and staff, and the greater Madison community. Work collaboratively with our team to ensure a cohesive message and brand image across all of our assets. You’ll be responsible for our “look” and will gain experience working within brand guidelines.
Pay rate starts at $16.50/hour.

Communications Assistant
Engage a broad audience of current and prospective students, faculty and staff, and the greater Madison community through outreach events and online platforms. Use your creative written and verbal skills to tell our story and set the tone for our social media, email newsletters, blog posts, our website, campus events, and more.

Photographer/Videographer
Deliver high-quality, compelling digital content for our social media platforms, website, email newsletters, blog posts, and more. Photographer and Videographer are two separate positions on our team, but we often have students who love to do both. Help us tell our story in a creative, highly visual way.

Member Services
Nicholas Recreation Center, Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center
Access Control & Equipment Assistant (ACE)
Welcome members and guests at the Nicholas Recreation Center or Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center while monitoring access control and equipment checkout. ACEs handle a high volume of requests and are expected to be a helpful resource for all members. Excellent communication and customer service skills are necessary.

Nicholas Recreation Center, Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center
Operations Attendant
Operations Attendants play an integral role in overseeing the daily operations of the Nicholas Recreation Center and Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center. This position works to maintain safe and welcoming spaces through member interaction and policy enforcement, equipment cleaning, and risk management. Operations Attendants gain skills and experience pertaining to customer service, task management, problem solving, as well as effective and efficient communication.

Technology
Audiovisual Support
AV support is responsible for day-to-day tasks that help support the technology and audiovisual systems at the Nicholas Recreation Center. AV support will handle a high volume of work order requests and are expected to help support other student staff regarding technology systems. The main responsibilities include responding to work order requests, following a preventative maintenance plan, and keeping inventory up to date. AV support will also assist with audiovisual set-up and tear-down for events.

Tennis
Tennis Instructor
Teach tennis lessons to both youth and adult participants. Instructors will teach both private and group tennis lessons. Previous experience teaching and playing tennis is strongly preferred.

Nielsen Tennis Stadium
Member Services Assistant
Operate the member services desk at Nielsen Tennis Stadium and provide excellent customer service to all participants. Responsibilities include processing sales for memberships, programs, and other services while managing our equipment checkout system. Excellent communication, customer service, attitude and personable skills are necessary. Previous tennis experience not required.

Wellbeing
Peer Wellness Educator
Support fellow Badgers in their pursuit of wellbeing through health promotion and education. Trained and certified peer educators will assist in the design and facilitation of presentations, workshops, and other outreach opportunities on various wellness topics such as mental health, sleep, nutrition, and more.
Pay rate starts at $16.00/hour.
Peer Wellness Coach
Support fellow Badgers in their pursuit of personal wellness goals through evidence-based wellness coaching practices. No prior coaching experience is required for this position. An interest in health promotion and a passion for a holistic approach to health are preferred.

Youth Programs & Summer Camp
Summer Camp Counselor
Inspire the next generation of Badgers to play hard, get fit, and live well. Actively participate and supervise our summer camp for children ages 5-12 while ensuring a safe and supportive environment for everyone involved. Previous experience with youth programs or summer camp is preferred.

Summer Camp Supervisor
Support the summer camp counselors and professional staff from a leadership role and teach children ages 5-12 to play hard, get fit, and live well. Previous experience with youth programs or summer camp is preferred.

Teach Jr. Active Badgers what it means to play hard, get fit, and live well. Lead instructional classes for children ages 3+ and their grown up. Previous experience with youth programs or summer camp is preferred.
