Let the Games Begin!

Students and members playing video games in the newly opened Esports room at the Bakke Recreation and Wellbeing Center.

As we enter the new year and this spring semester, we are proud to open our newest space at Bakke, our Esports Room! Located on the second floor of the Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center, the Esports Room has 12 gaming computers ready for you to come use.

This is such an exciting moment for our vibrant Esports & Gaming club with their roughly 100 active athletes and 1700 members. This room gives them the opportunity to practice all 9 of their offered games in the same space (without having to host an old fashion LAN party). Having a physical space also opens doors for new members who may not have had access to a gaming computer prior.

Beyond club sports, the space will also host intramural sports, which you can still join for this semester! Session C (February – mid March) will host League of Legends and Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. Registration for Session C close January 30, so get in while you can! Session D (April – end of semester) will feature Valorant and Rocket League. Whether you are brand new to gaming or an expert, all are welcome to join! Register for your intramural sports pass through Fusion Play here.

Another easy way to join in on the fun is our tournament series. These one-day events host a wide range of games with everything from cribbage to Just Dance. As an additional bonus, Ian’s Pizza will be offered at all tournaments.

All UW Madison students and staff have access to the Esports room during open rec hours (building open – 6pm). The computers have 36 games downloaded and licenses for you “check out.” This is a great way to meet up with your friends and try out a game without having to commit to purchasing it. If keyboard gaming is not your thing, you can check out a controller at the member services desk for no charge.

With so many opportunities for fun, we are proud to host and support UW-Madison’s many gamers. See you online!
