Midterm Season Snacks

It’s midterm season, and you may be feeling stressed out with everything you have on your plate. But don’t let that force you into putting unhealthy food on your actual plate. Healthy snacks can give you energy and focus to support studying this midterm season.
Here are 6 snacks to munch on while studying:
Popcorn. This is a great, crunchy alternative to chips (especially if air-popped plain and not covered in butter). If eaten plain, it is one of the healthiest snacks, since each piece is itself a whole grain.
Apples and Peanut Butter. Or any other nut butter really. Apples have a healthy dose of vitamin c, which helps your immune system and nut butters are great because they have protein and healthy fats. Together, this snack will keep you full and give you more energy to power through the day.
Fruit Salad. This is a great snack idea especially if you crave sugar when stressed out. Put any mixture of fruit together in a small bowl for a sweet snack. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples, blackberries, pomegranate seeds, bananas and peaches are just some ideas. You can also put this mixture in a blender and add some greek yogurt for a delicious smoothie to take on the go.
Veggies and Hummus. Pair hummus with carrots, celery, cucumbers or peppers for a healthy substitute to chips and dip. There are also many varieties of hummus flavors to choose from or even simple ways to make your own. Hummus is made of chickpeas, olive oil, garlic and tahini. This spread is great since, like nuts, it has healthy fats and a good amount of protein and fiber, to keep you full and energized.
String Cheese. I wouldn’t be a true resident of Wisconsin without having a cheese item on this list. String cheese is a quick snack to hold you over between meals that won’t add a ton of calories to your day. My personal favorite is mozzarella with some almonds on the side.
No Bake Bites. These bites are great to pack in your bag to take to class and/or work. They are essentially nut butter, honey and oats with other flavors of your choice rolled into small balls. Once they are made, put them in the refrigerator or freezer to set. There are so many options to pack a punch with these guys.
