We are University Recreation & Wellbeing

It’s time to say goodbye to Rec Sports; we have officially become University Recreation & Wellbeing! (You can call us Rec Well for short.)

You may be wondering why.

Well, we took “sports” out of our name for a few reasons:

  • We are more than just sports, and we want everyone to feel like they’re able to participate. We think recreation should be accessible to everyone, and our name shouldn’t be a reason why people don’t join the fun.
  • We listened to students and our members, and you told us that you get way more out of our offerings than just physical benefits. You told us you feel better, sleep better, and have better relationships when you participate. We hope changing our name will help spread the word!
  • We often get confused for being part of UW Athletics. While we love the Badgers just as much as you do, share many facilities with the varsity teams, and also have several national championships under our belt (#humblebrag), we are two distinct divisions on campus.

As University Recreation & Wellbeing, we believe your wellbeing is yours to own. What works for you might not work for someone else, and we’re here to support you in living your best life — even if that means never stepping foot in one of our facilities. To do this better, we are increasing our focus on outreach and collaboration with other campus partners.

While we will continue to offer many of your favorite programs like group fitness classes, personal training, intramural sports, sport clubs, and instructional programs, we’re also pursuing new offerings related to your overall wellbeing. We’ll announce more information in the coming weeks, and over the next few months you’ll notice more updates and improvements as we prepare for the Nick to open, but in the meantime, check out our new site and let us know what you think!
