Rec Well Summer Camp is among one of a few collegiate recreation departments with an accredited summer camp.
Recreation & Wellbeing (Rec Well) is proud to announce Rec Well Summer Camp has officially received accreditation from the American Camp Association (ACA).
After a thorough peer review process of over 300 standards, including safety procedures and staff training, Rec Well Summer Camp is now one of a few collegiate recreation departments with an accredited summer camp program.
“We are proud to receive such an accreditation from ACA, acknowledging our work to provide Madison families with safe and enjoyable camp experiences,” Aaron Hobson, Director of Rec Well said.
ACA is the only independent accrediting organization reviewing camp operations in the country. The organization works with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth service agencies to assure that current practices at the camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation.
“We’re very excited to be going into this new camp season with an accredited program,” says Abby Van Note, Assistant Director of Inclusion, Club & Community Programs. Van Note leads the team that runs summer camp and was intimately involved in the accreditation process with ACA. “We can’t wait for campers to play hard, get fit, and live well in a safe campus environment.”
Rec Well Summer Camp offers ten week-long sessions running between June 12 – August 18 for ages 5-14 years old. Sessions feature themes such as Carnival Week, Rock’n’Roll, and Camp Olympics. A new addition this summer is Rec Well Teen Camp. This experience is for 13–14-year-olds and will offer the opportunities to play classic camp games, attend field trips around UW-Madison’s campus, engage in team building activities, and participate in leadership workshops.
Registration for returning camp families begins March 1 (those who attended in summer 2022) and for new camp families on March 8. Learn more here.
